PHIL015 Give me 80's, but make it bassy
Welcome back to Phil’s mixes and this one did not end up the way I intended to when I first started to research music for it.
Initially, “french house” was the vibe in mind. Think Soulwax, L’Imperatrice, Daft Punk, and so forth. However, in my search for tunes in that area I came across two artists that inspired this much more bassy and 80’s italo style mix: Jacques Lu Cont (AKA Stuart Price) and Vitalic. Their two tunes in this mix are the remix of boy by The Killers and Power In My Hands respectively and these two big hitters took me down a very energetic route.
And then suddenly I came across Alen Skanner and his tune Supernova on Spotify and suddenly it all fell into place. I want the 80’s and I want it bassy.

In my last mix, I noted that I often brought tracks in too early which resulted in a cacophany of noise at points. This time, I took my time with bringing tracks in and the result (to me) is instantly noticeable. No longer do my transitions sound like two tracks battling out for the listener’s attention, there’s space to breath and enjoy moving from one song to the next. There were a few moments where I mistimed some of the shorter tracks transitions, but I still prefer this to my previous attempts.
As for track selection, Why? sounded a bit off for some reason, not sure why that is and 16K was too early in the lineup. The slowdown halfway through would be much better suited to a mid-set track I feel. Discorecord towards the end of the mix is a great track, but was placed between two much more energetic tracks so I feel like it took the energy down a notch.
Also tried to whack in a pan delay at the end and boy did I screw that up, whoops.
